Forward your emails to Gist team inbox

If you want to connect your mailbox (e.g., or with Gist, you will need to set up forwarding or redirection from your email provider to get that email in to Gist. This will let you handle all support requests from your Gist inbox.

In this article, we'll walk you through how Gist handles email support, and then take you step-by-step through setting up and configuring your mailboxes.

Step 1: Add your email address

First things first, let’s setup the email addresses you want to connect to your Gist inbox.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Inbox > Email Forwarding.
  2. Click the Add new address button.
  3. In the side panel, add an Internal name, your Shared email address, and the From name on how the sender's name will appear when a contact receives an email from you.
  4. To send an acknowledgment email for emails received to this address, check the box Send an acknowledgment email and customize the email content.
  5. Click Save.

Step 2: Set up email forwarding from your provider

Next, let's get your email provider to forward all emails to your Gist inbox.

  2. Under forwarding addressclick Copy to copy your unique forwarding address.

You may receive a verification email from your email provider to your inbox. Navigate to your inbox in your Gist workspace to view the verification code and verify the forwarding correctly.

Step 3: Setup your DNS records

Now, that you have configured your mailbox to automatically forward all incoming emails to your Gist inbound address, you’d need to set up your SPF and DKIM records, so all replies sent via Gist don’t end up in the spam folder.

Important notes:

  • When you forward your email to your Gist forwarding address, everyone that is part of your workspace will be able to see any emails sent to that address. So, it's recommended to NOT forward emails from your personal address.
  • When an email is forwarded to your Gist inbox, by default, Gist associates that email to the contact with the From email address in the original email, not the forwarder's email address. This ensures that the emails are correctly associated with contacts if you're using an automated forwarding rule in your inbox.
