If you're already using Squarespace for your website, you can use Gist on it as long as you have a custom domain on Squarespace.

That means, you cannot use Gist on your Squarespace website if the URL looks like this: http://example.squarespace.com

In order to get Gist to work on your website, you would need to make sure that you get a custom domain for yourself, which looks like this: http://example.com

To get started, login to your Squarespace admin, and click on 'Edit'.

Then, click on 'Add Block' or the '+' sign and then add a new 'Code Block' from the options menu.

Then copy the Gist JS snippet code from your project settings, and paste it here. Select 'JavaScript' from the dropdown menu and then click on 'Apply'.

Once you do this, the Gist tracking code will be installed on your Squarespace website. You can start tracking visitors and their actions on your site, and also talk to them in real time using the Gist live chat messenger.

Alternative Method (requires Code Injection)

You can install your Gist tracking snippet through the Advanced > Code Injection settings page in your Squarespace dashboard. When you’re finished, click Save and you’re ready to start personalizing your website.

From your dashboard:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Scroll down to Website > Advanced
  3. Then, click on Code Injection (Please Note: You’ll need to Upgrade your Squarespace account in order to unlock this feature)

From here, you’re ready to install your tracking snippet.

  1. Scroll down and “paste” your tracking snippet in the Footer section (this will output the code immediately before the closing </body> tag)
  2. Click on Save at the top of the screen

Now that you’ve installed the tracking snippet, you’re good to go!
