This guide gives an overview of the basic setup process. These 3 steps will help you set up your Gist account in no time, and by the end of step 3, you will be able to get the core of Gist up and running.

The 3 steps to a successful setup

1.    Install Gist on your website and import data

2.    Setup Gist live-chat on your site and customize appearance

3.    Invite teammates to your project

Each step takes only a few minutes, and you can set everything up at one go.

Step 1. Install Gist on your website and import data

To start the installation process, you need a Gist account. If you are new to Gist, you need to create a new account. This takes only a few seconds.

Go to the  signup page and create your Gist account by entering your name, email address and password.

Next, you need to create your project on Gist. On the next screen, you will be prompted to create a Project on Gist for your product or website. Click the "Add Project" button and enter the project name and the domain URL in the boxes and click "Create Project".

Next, you need to install Gist JavaScript code on your product/website. Open setup guide and follow the instructions provided that will help you install Gist on your site.

Next, here is the Gist  JS code snippet which you simply need to paste in your website code, before the closing </head> tag.

<!-- start ConvertFox JS code--> <script> (function(d,h,w){var convertfox=w.convertfox=w.convertfox||[];convertfox.methods=['trackPageView','identify','track','setAppId'];convertfox.factory=function(t){return function(){var e=Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments);e.unshift(t);convertfox.push(e);return convertfox;}};for(var i=0;i<convertfox.methods.length;i++){var c=convertfox.methods[i];convertfox[c]=convertfox.factory(c)}s=d.createElement('script'),s.src="//d3sjgucddk68ji.cloudfront.net/convertfox.min.js",s.async=!0,e=d.getElementsByTagName(h)[0],e.appendChild(s),s.addEventListener('load',function(e){},!1),convertfox.setAppId("PROJECT_ID"),convertfox.trackPageView()})(document,'head',window); </script> <!-- end ConvertFox JS code-->

IMPORTANT: Remember to replace “PROJECT_ID” with your project ID. Your project ID is the alphanumeric code that you can see after 'projects' in your URL - 'https://app.getgist.com/projects/'

For instance, if the URL says https://app.getgist.com/projects/9abcdefg, then your project ID is '9abcdefg'

You are now ready to start using Gist.

Note: Read this simple guide if you'd like to install Gist on your WordPress site.

Step 2: Setup Gist live-chat and customize appearance

Gist’s live-chat product helps you communicate in real-time with your customers and website visitors alike. You can respond to visitors’ queries in real-time, trigger targeted messages and start relevant conversations with website visitors, to onboard and provide live support to your new customers.

Once installed, your customers and website visitors will see the live chat messenger at the bottom right-hand corner of their screens. You can customize the messenger to match your brand, and we certainly recommend that you do so.

Go to the 'Settings' page, and click the 'Configure' button under 'Messenger'. Here, you can change the color of the button and the messenger widget. Note that the color of your conversations will also change. Play around with the settings on this page, and customize the Gist messenger however you want. Here's a more detailed guide on how you can customize the chat widget.

Step 3: Invite teammates to your Gist project

If you wish to add or delete a teammate on Gist, you will have to go to the settings page from the taskbar.

Once you’re there, select the ‘Team’ option under 'Project and Teams' category.

Here, you can invite your teammates to your project on Gist, and assign roles to them based on how much of your project they can access.

Once you add your teammates here, they will receive an invitation email from Gist, containing a link to create their personal account Gist. Once they do that and login to their account, they will have access to the project.

At the end of this step. your team will be ready to start using Gist. You can then continue to set up other tools on Gist in order to realize its full functionality. Read our installation guides for more details.
